About the Speaker: Jim Flanagan

Jim Flanagan grew up on the Mississippi gulf coast and attended the public schools in Pascagoula, Mississippi.  He received his Associate’s degree from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University and Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from University of Mississippi in 1981.

Upon graduation, Jim worked as a planning and landscape design consultant in Clarksdale, Mississippi.  He then became Planning Director and eventually Executive Director of North Delta Planning and Development District.  In 1988 he accepted the position of Executive Director of the DeSoto County Economic Development Council and served in that capacity until 1994 when he accepted a new position as President of the Jackson, TN Chamber of Commerce. In 1996 he returned to his original position with the DeSoto Council and is currently serving as President/CEO.  He was recently named as one of North America’s top 50 Economic Developers by Consultant Connect.
