About the Speaker-Steve Mulroy

Steve Mulroy was elected Shelby County District Attorney General for the 30th Judicial District at Memphis in 2022.  A former federal prosecutor and civil rights attorney for the U.S. Justice Department in Washington, D.C., he served from 2000-2022 as a law professor at the University of Memphis, where he taught and published in criminal law & procedure, constitutional law, and civil rights. During that time he litigated criminal and civil rights cases in Tennessee at the trial and appellate level in state and federal court.  He served as an elected Shelby County Commissioner 2006-2014.  He has published articles in such national publications as Newsweek, U.S. News & World Report, Slate, The Hill, and The New Republic, and served as a legal commentator on CNN, MSNBC, & Fox News Channel.  He is a member of the American Law Institute who has testified before Congress and the U.S. Civil Rights Commission.
