The Apartment Association of Greater Memphis could not exist without the help of its many volunteers and the committees on which they serve. These committees depend on your participation and attendance to successfully meet their goals. Find a committee that interests you and join! Committee meetings are posted on the calendar.
The Associates Council presents a networking arena for the Associate Members at every AAGM function. The Associates Council holds five luncheons throughout the year and the Business Exchange.
Our association is proud to support The Dorothy Day House of Hospitality.
This house provides temporary housing and support services for homeless families in Memphis. The Community Involvement Committee works to raise donations, promote events, and provide necessities for the home. The Committee meets periodically throughout the year as needed. If you would like to volunteer your services to the Dorothy Day House, please complete the online Volunteer Form.
The House will call you as specific needs arise that match your abilities.
Diamond Achievement Awards
AAGM celebrates the Industry’s top professionals at the Annual Diamond Achievement Awards. We honor the Industry’s best with over 40 award categories such as Best Landscape, Outstanding Maintenance Team, Leasing Professional of the Year, and Property Manager of the Year. Over 500 members attend the annual event. DAA sponsors make a valuable marketing investment, by recognizing, supporting and interacting with the industry’s top talent. The committee is responsible for planning and assisting with the awards banquet and fundraiser. This includes encouraging nomination submissions, promoting the event, and assisting the AAGM staff and committee chair with event responsibilities. The Committee meets once a month (or more if needed) starting in April and concludes with the event the following January.
AAGM offers a variety of educational opportunities for members (see calendar of events). A few of the exceptional programs include annual designation programs, the Morning Motivator Series, Fair Housing and Beyond, and many more. The Education Committee plans and executes educational programs by securing speakers, sponsors, and scheduling the educational calendar of events. Education is planned for the entire year so committee members should be prepared to meet several times during the year.
The Golf Scramble is one of the most enjoyable events that AAGM offers its members. It’s one of the best opportunities for corporate and property personnel, as well as suppliers, to become acquainted and to build valuable relationships while enjoying a relaxed, easy-going game of golf. This committee plans and assists with the annual Golf Scramble, including promoting team participation and volunteering the day of the event. The committee meets monthly January-June.
Maintenance Mania ® is a national competition where maintenance technicians compete in skill-based games built around common maintenance activities. The competition includes a pinewood derby-style car race where the cars are made out of maintenance supplies. Winners from each local event get a chance to qualify for a spot at the National Championship. The committee promotes participation for both competitors and spectators and assists with judging and day of event details. Because Maintenance Mania occurs early in the year, committee members should expect a high volume of planning meetings the first quarter of the year.
The Source, Multifamily Market Statistics Report provides detailed reports on the Memphis Multifamily Housing market as a whole and in-depth analyses of Metro Memphis’ submarkets. The Source is distributed FREE of charge to members, non-members and other interested parties. The credibility and image of the Apartment Association of Greater Memphis is enhanced through involvement with the survey and many of our members find it an invaluable resource to have on hand. The Market Analysis committee aids in the creation of The Source
by securing advertising and editorial review of content.
The Membership Committee's primary focus is member recruitment and retention. This includes planning membership recruitment events, visiting new members and keeping the current members involved in order to maintain our membership. The Committee is responsible for verifying information provided by membership applicants and making appropriate election recommendations to the Board of Directors. The Committee meets once a month and visits new members each month.
Membership Luncheons are held monthly (excluding January, July and September) with an average attendance of 110-120 people, and includes some of the key decision makers in the multifamily housing industry. Membership luncheons provide an excellent venue for networking with other members, while keeping abreast of the most current information affecting the industry and association. The Programs committee secures the speakers and associate spotlight sponsors for each membership luncheon and assists with collecting donation items for the Annual Bucks Auction.
This committee aids in communicating AAGM’s mission to the general public and our “happenings” within the industry. Some examples include: monthly article submission to the Commercial Appeal, event press releases, and regular Facebook postings on behalf of AAGM.
The Trade Show continues as the largest, most significant event of the year. It provides supplier members with a prime opportunity to show off their products and services to those who need it most. The Trade Show committee assists in the selling of booths, promoting the annual show, assisting the committee chair and staff with event planning, and working the day of the Trade Show. The Committee meets at least once a month from April to September.
